Slide 26 of 66
Notes:
The left diagram shows predicted drainage density for various classes of fluvial and slope process combinations as a function of erosion rate. The synopsis of the curves are:
Case IA: Neither slopes or fluvial erosion is operating near threshold conditions.
Case IB: Slopes are linear diffusion but channel erosion is dominated by the threshold condition
Case IIA: Slopes are at threshold condition, but channels are not dominated by being near threshold
Case IIB: Both slopes and channels are operating near threshold conditions.
Only for cases IB and IIA is there a strong dependency of drainage density on erosion rate. The right diagram shows results for 2-D steady state landscape simulations, which show the same general pattern. The next slide show landscapes simulated for cases IIA and IB, showing the variations in landscape form as a function of erosion rate
