The alternative scenario that was investigated was a relatively rapid downcutting of the Fremont River below its Wisconsinan level followed by stability at its present level. This shows the early stages of such an erosional history, in which the river at the bottom has downcut, but much of the landscape remains as a modestly dissected remnant pediment surface (top portions of the picture).
