A view of the bedrock grooves on the channel bed. The bed layers are horizontal and the fracture pattern in the bedrock does not parallel the grooves. These observations, plus the uniform spacing of the grooves, suggests that secondary vortices with their axes lying along the flow direction concentrate abrasional attack of the bed by suspended sediment within the grooves.
