This is a view of another meandering channel in Alaska. Note the recent cutoff near the bottom of the picture and an impending cutoff just above. Note that the portions of the abandoned channel nearest the cutoff bend rapidly fill with sediment diffusing from the main channel, whereas portions of the cutoff loop far from the main channel fill slowly, resulting in oxbow lakes.
