Notes:
Although natural levees are a prominent feature of many meandering
channels, they do not form in the simulation model under the default simulation
conditions of a non-aggrading channel. This is because the meandering channel
tends to erode any levee deposits on the outside of bends, and point bar
deposits on the inside of bends are topographically low. However, when
the channel aggrades through time prominent levees are formed (they also
form, of course, when the floodplain subsides, presumably due to sediment
consolidation or tectonic deformation).
