Notes:
This is an oblique photo of a braided stream in Alaska in the Denali National Park (USA). The most important characteristic of braided channels is the multiple channels active at any single time. In some places the channel has the appearance of a single large channel with multiple exposed bars, and in other places it is clearly widely separated individual channels. Individual braids or anabranches clearly show some tendency towards meandering behavior. Different braided rivers show widely varying degrees of braiding, ranging from occasional splitting of a mostly meandering single-thread channel to braided reaches with even more active channels than the one shown here.
