Outline of topics (cont.)
Session 3
- Steady-stage landforms & scaling
- Transient landforms & landform evolution Floodplain processes
- Issues and opportunities in landform modeling
- Extraterrestrial geomorphology: Landform development on the planet Mars (if time permits)
Notes:
The final session will be concerned with integrating weathering, mass-wasting, and fluvial processes into landscape evolution models. The first topic will be steady state landscapes developed under a constant rate of erosion of the controlling base level and constant climate and uniform rock properties. The discussion will then progress to a few examples of transient landform evolution under temporally varying conditions. The talk will then present a brief summary of unresolved issues and future opportunities in landform modeling. If time permits, I will give a brief synopsis of current modeling that I am undertaking to simulate landform processes that occurred early in the history of the planet Mars.
