Another challenge in landscape models is to capture the interaction of surficial processes and rock structure that create the complex architecture of dominantly bedrock (weathering-limited landscapes). Here for example, is Half Dome and Yosemite Valley seen from the air. Formation of secondary exfoliation (sheeting) fracturing in the massive granite due to gravitational stresses and, presumably, unloading expansion has interacted with weathering processes to create the rounded domes and other features of the rock slopes.
